Passing of Donald W. Brady – Retired Asst. Chief Metemora, MI
Donald Wayne Brady, Sr., 78, of Lapeer (formerly of Metamora) died Friday. June 15, 2012. Donald was born February 2, 1934 in Metamora to parents Elmer and Murl (Dietz) Brady. He married Delores “Dixie” Brookshire on July 5, 1952 in Lake Orion.
Mr. Brady worked for Metamora Industries for 33 years, ending his career as a supervisor. He proudly served on the Metamora Fire Department for 33 years; five years as Assistant Chief and seventeen years as Fire Department Chief. Don also worked a spell for R & M Excavating. Mr. Brady enjoyed many things; horseshoes, snowmobiling, camping, playing dominos and traveling – proud to have been to every state but two. The family thinks he may have been born with a deck of cards in his hands; Don really loved euchre, pinochle and many other card games. You can tell he enjoyed spending time with people, especially family gatherings.
Mr. Brady is survived by his wife, Delores “Dixie” Brady, children: Donald (Valerie) Brady, Jr. of Lapeer, Belinda (Guy) Hainds of Imlay City, Connie (Russ) Stroup of Lapeer, Cheryl Hauck of Lapeer, grandchildren: Donald (Ashley) Brady, III, Jason (Amanda) Brady, Brian (Rachel) Brady, Amanda (John) Speck, Betty Carr, Angela (Brian) Rosczewski, Guy (Cindy) Hainds, Jr., Dallas (Tiffany) Hainds, Tara (Paul) Seames, Sonya (Mohamed) Elmardi, Trisha (Gary) Varvel, Tim Carr, 30 great-grandchildren and brother: Alfred Brady of Lapeer. He was preceded in death by granddaughter: Tawnya, his parents, brothers: Roy, Roland & Raymond, sisters: Maxine, Marguerite, Betty, Arlene, Shirley & Delores.
Visitation will be Saturday 4-8pm, Sunday 1-4 & 6-8pm with a 7pm Fire Department Honor Service. Donald’s funeral service will be 11:00am, Monday, June 18, 2012 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer officiated by Rev. Arnold Bracy. Burial will be in Metamora Cemetery, Metamora.
